A question for the grown ups out there...how much does it cost to be "on your own"?

-Ok, so for all the grown ups out there, about how much does it cost per month to be "on your own", living in an apartment for instance? Besides the cost of rent, about how much would groceries cost for, lets say 2 people? How much on average is the electric bill? The gas bill? The water bill, the tv bill, the internet bill, along with any other expenses i am forgetting? If you could break down the average cost of everything, that would be great. Thanks so much, I would really appreciate it :) I am naive and I know it is hard out there in the real world, so I would just like to know how much it costs per month to be "on your own". Thanks again!all things considered, using a rent of 700 a month...you're looking at an easy 1400 a month out the door



if you live modestly. from the list you show above there, you have alot of expenses you could trim



back cuz you gotta feed yourselves too.



a realistic figure on two would be pushing 1800 w/food, car, etc...not easy.You need to add info like where you plan to live (what city/state).. it all varies based on location, what is available in that area (different electric companies, internet companies, grocery stores, etc. etc.). Some places only accept specific electric companies or internet, etc. etc. You really need to do your own research in your own area. :)
Depends on where you live and other circumstances.



For example, suppose you run away from home at eighteen and join a motorcycle gang and get knocked up. Well sir you are on the hook for housing expenses aren't you.



But if you stay home with mom and dad and take care of them until they conveniently die under completely unsuspicious circumstances, you can inherit their house, which they owned free and clear, and live there without ever paying a cent in rent for the rest of your life.



I knew a guy who was like 60 who never paid rent just because he inherited a house. I hated that guy.



But anyway, yeah, you can live all right on twenty thousand a year, most places I guess. Probably wouldn't want to get cable tv or one of those fancy cell phones though. And a cheap car would help too
